History

Tofaş began producing the Fiat Tempra in November 1990 as a modern replacement for the Murat 131-era sedans, bridging between the Bird Series and the next generation of Fiat-licensed vehicles. The Tempra was the Tipo-derived sedan variant, and 129,590 units were built at Bursa. The car became a milestone vehicle for Tofaş: the one-millionth vehicle produced by the company rolled off the Bursa line as a Tempra in 1993.

Exports of Turkish-built Tempras began in 1995, establishing Bursa as an export-capable plant — a role that would grow dramatically in later decades. Production in Turkey ran until 1999.
