Singer SM1500 History

Launched in 1948, the Singer SM1500 was the company's bid for the modern post-war market: a streamlined full-width saloon body with coil-spring independent front suspension and a 1,500 cc single-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine.

Technically up to date but priced around £799 — expensive against rivals like the Morris Oxford — the SM1500 sold too slowly to reverse Singer's decline. In 1954 it was given a traditional upright radiator grille and renamed the Hunter, but the firm's finances were already failing.
