Singer Hunter History

The Singer Hunter of 1954 was essentially the SM1500 fitted with a traditional upright radiator grille and revised trim, an attempt to give the modern saloon a more conventional, premium look. An optional twin-overhead-cam version of the 1,500 cc engine was developed but is thought to have barely reached customers.

The Hunter was the final model of Singer as an independent maker. With the company in financial trouble, the Rootes Group took control at the end of 1955, and the Hunter was dropped in 1956 as Rootes prepared to relaunch Singer as a badge-engineered marque.
