SEAT Alhambra History

The SEAT Alhambra debuted in 1996 as a large seven-seat people carrier, jointly developed with Volkswagen (Sharan) and Ford (Galaxy) and assembled at the AutoEuropa plant in Palmela, Portugal. It was SEAT's only full-size MPV and an important fleet and family-car seller across Europe.

A second generation arrived in 2010, sharing its underpinnings with the Volkswagen Sharan Mk2, with sliding rear doors and improved refinement. As consumer preferences shifted from MPVs to crossover SUVs through the 2010s, Alhambra sales declined steadily. Production ended in 2020 with no direct successor; the SEAT Tarraco took over the large seven-seat role as an SUV.
