Scion iQ History

The iQ was a US-market version of the Toyota iQ, a tiny premium city car engineered to seat three adults (plus a child) in a footprint barely longer than a Smart Fortwo, using a clever flat-mounted fuel tank and asymmetric dashboard to claw back interior space. It went on sale for 2012 with a 1.3-liter four.

Despite its packaging ingenuity, the iQ was a poor fit for American tastes — its high price relative to size, tight rear seating, and minimal cargo space hurt sales, which fell sharply after launch. It was dropped from the US lineup after the 2015 model year, ahead of the brand's full shutdown.
