Scion FR-S History

The FR-S (the name standing for 'Front-engine, Rear-drive, Sport') was Scion's most celebrated car: a lightweight, affordable, rear-wheel-drive 2+2 sports coupe co-developed by Toyota and Subaru and powered by a 2.0-liter Subaru boxer four. Sold from 2013, it shared its design with the Subaru BRZ and was praised for its balance, low center of gravity, and pure driving feel rather than outright power.

When Scion was discontinued, the car was rebadged as the Toyota 86 for 2017 (and is known globally as the Toyota GT86 / GR86 in later forms), carrying on the exact platform Scion had launched. It remains the brand's most enduring legacy.
