SAIPA Sahand History
History
Introduced in late 2022 and reaching the market in 2023, the Sahand is effectively the second generation of the Saina. Like its predecessor it sits on the X200 platform and carries a 1.5-litre M15GSI engine (91 hp, 137 N·m, Euro 5) available with a five-speed manual or CVT. SAIPA refreshed the exterior with new lighting, bumpers, and grille, and upgraded the interior with a two-tone finish and a 7-inch infotainment screen.
Notable for its segment is a suite of safety and convenience features typically absent from budget Iranian cars at launch: blind-spot detection, a rain sensor, heated and power-folding door mirrors, an electric sunroof, and a heated driver's seat. The car is named after Sahand, a dormant volcano south of Tabriz — continuing SAIPA's tradition of giving models evocative Persian geographical names. Sales data for full-year 2024 confirmed the Sahand had successfully entered the Iranian sales charts, complementing rather than immediately displacing the long-lived Tiba.
