SAIPA Renault 5 (Iran) History

In 1975, as the Citroën partnership was ending, SAIPA began assembling the Renault 5 under license — giving the company a contemporary European hatchback to replace the ageing Citroën lineup. The Renault 5 was a natural fit for the Iranian market: affordable, fuel-efficient, and straightforward to manufacture locally.

SAIPA built the Renault 5 until approximately 1994, when the production lines transferred to Pars Khodro (a SAIPA subsidiary it would later acquire). Under Pars Khodro the model and its successors continued into the 2000s. The Renault 21 sedan was also assembled by related entities during the late 1980s and 1990s, ending around 1997.
