SAIC Motor Roewe 750 History

The Roewe 750 was the very first model to carry SAIC's newly created Roewe marque, launched in October 2006. Developed under the codename SAC528, it was built on a long-wheelbase version of the Rover 75 platform — technology acquired when SAIC purchased intellectual property from the collapsed MG Rover Group in 2005. The wheelbase was stretched 103 mm compared to the Rover 75 to suit the Chinese preference for rear-seat space.

Positioned as a prestige executive saloon for Chinese government and business buyers, the 750 was powered by a Rover-derived 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. It established the Roewe brand and ran in production until 2016, when SAIC's model lineup had matured enough that the British-derived platform was retired.
