SAIC Motor MG4 EV History
History
The MG4 EV — sold as the MG Mulan in China — was launched in June 2022 and became the first vehicle built on SAIC's dedicated Modular Scalable Platform (MSP, marketed as the Nebula platform in China), a purpose-built battery-electric architecture. First batches arrived in Europe in September 2022, where the car's competitive pricing and decent range quickly earned it top-ten finishes in Scandinavian EV sales charts.
The MG4 EV earned broad press acclaim as MG's first ground-up EV design rather than a converted combustion model, and significantly accelerated the brand's European sales growth. A high-performance MG4 XPower variant and subsequent updates broadened the range. A comprehensively redesigned model arrived in 2025 with semi-solid-state battery options starting from around $14,000 in China.
