SAIC Motor Maxus V80 History

SAIC established the Maxus brand on March 21, 2011, as a wholly owned subsidiary to exploit intellectual property it had acquired from the collapsed British commercial-vehicle maker LDV Group in 2010. The Maxus V80 was unveiled at Auto Shanghai in April 2011 as the brand's debut model — a large panel van derived directly from the LDV Maxus that LDV had developed in a joint program with Daewoo Motor in the early 2000s.

The V80 gave SAIC a credible large-van product for China's commercial market with established European DNA. An electric version, the EV80, entered the Chinese market in August 2020, and an updated EV80 Pro launched in 2023. Outside China the brand is sold as LDV in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
