History

The Saab 9-7X was a rebadged Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT (later TrailBlazer) built on GM's GMT360 body-on-frame truck platform, offered for model years 2005 through 2009. It was produced at GM's Moraine, Ohio plant alongside the TrailBlazer, Buick Rainier, and GMC Envoy, receiving Saab-specific front-end styling, interior updates, and the Saab name.

Available with V6 and V8 petrol engines and, from 2007, a high-performance Aero trim with a 5.3-litre V8, the 9-7X was a deliberate attempt to put Saab in the then-booming US SUV segment. It was never a critical success — reviewers noted that its truck-platform dynamics jarred with Saab's car-derived identity — and was discontinued after 2009 when GM's restructuring under bankruptcy eliminated the programme.
