Riley 4/Sixty-Eight & 4/Seventy-Two History

The Riley 4/Sixty-Eight (1959–1961) was the Riley-badged version of BMC's mid-size 'Farina' saloon, styled by Pinin Farina and shared with the Austin Cambridge, Morris Oxford, MG Magnette and Wolseley 15/60. It carried Riley's traditional grille and a twin-carburettor 1.5-litre engine.

In October 1961 it became the Riley 4/Seventy-Two, with a larger 1,622 cc engine, anti-roll bars and other revisions; about 14,151 were built before production ended in 1969. These were upmarket-trimmed BMC saloons rather than engineering-led Rileys, reflecting how far the marque had been merged into its parent.
