History

The SM6 debuted in 2016 as a Korea-market adaptation of the Renault Talisman, offering a modern mid-size alternative at a time when the SM5 was aging. It shared the Talisman's CMF platform and turbocharged petrol engines (1.6 TCe and 2.0 TCe), bringing European-standard ride quality and a more contemporary interior to the Busan-built lineup.

When the company rebranded from Renault Samsung Motors to Renault Korea in 2022–2024, the SM6 was the only model to retain the 'SM' designation in the market as other models transitioned to Renault branding. Production stopped in March 2025, and remaining inventory was exhausted by approximately November 2025, ending the Samsung-prefix naming era entirely.
