History

The QM5 debuted in 2007 as Renault Samsung's first-ever crossover SUV, based on the Nissan X-Trail (T31) platform and sold internationally as the first-generation Renault Koleos. It brought a 2.0-litre turbo diesel and petrol four-cylinder options to Korean buyers seeking a practical family crossover with AWD capability.

Production ran from approximately 2007 to 2016, after which the QM5 was succeeded by the second-generation QM6. The QM5's sales demonstrated strong Korean consumer appetite for SUVs and set the foundation for the brand's pivot toward a crossover-heavy lineup.
