History

The X50 was launched in October 2020 as Proton's second Geely-platform SUV, adapted from the Geely Binyue (also known as the Coolray internationally) into a right-hand-drive B-segment crossover for Malaysia. Starting from RM79,200, it undercut the X70 and targeted the growing volume segment of the Malaysian SUV market.

It quickly became one of Proton's best-selling models, with its 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine, active safety suite, and competitive pricing appealing to younger buyers. The X50 is produced locally at the Tanjung Malim plant.
