History

The Gen-2 (short for 'Generation 2') launched in late 2004 as the first Proton to carry the company's own CamPro engine, a 1.6L DOHC unit developed in-house with Lotus engineering involvement. Its platform — co-developed with Lotus — was later shared with the Satria Neo and Persona.

Offered in 1.3L and 1.6L CamPro variants, the Gen-2 was a five-door liftback with a sharper design than the Waja it complemented. Domestic sales ended in 2012, though export production continued for some markets beyond that date.
