Proton Iriz History

Unveiled on 25 September 2014 at Proton City, the Iriz was Proton's first B-segment supermini and the first Proton to achieve a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating ahead of its launch — a significant benchmark for the Malaysian market. Its 1.3L and 1.6L engines both incorporated variable valve timing (VVT). The Iriz name is derived from 'iris', the anatomical term for the structure responsible for sight.

The Iriz platform was later adapted for the second-generation Persona saloon. After an 11-year run, production ended in September 2025 to pave the way for the Proton e.MAS 5, an electric hatchback successor developed in partnership with Geely.
