History
The Cayenne debuted at the 2002 Paris Motor Show as Porsche's first SUV, going on sale in the US for the 2003 model year. Developed jointly with Volkswagen (sharing a platform with the Touareg and Audi Q7), it caused an initial outcry among Porsche purists — but the market responded with enthusiasm. The Cayenne quickly became Porsche's best-selling model and funded the development of the 997, Cayman, and eventually the Panamera.
Three generations have been sold: the first (955/957, 2003–2010) established the formula with V6 and V8 options; the second (92A, 2011–2018) refined the formula and introduced a plug-in hybrid; the third (9YA, 2019–present) brought turbocharged V6 and V8s, a fastback Cayenne Coupe body, and hybrid options. A fully electric Cayenne E3 Turbo Electric was announced for 2026.
