Mitsuoka M55 History

Unveiled in November 2024 as a Zero Edition concept, the M55 marks Mitsuoka's 55th anniversary with a 'Showa retro' aesthetic — a term referencing the Showa era (1926–1989) of Japanese car design. The body, built on the eleventh-generation Honda Civic platform, draws explicit inspiration from 1970s Japanese sports cars: the Datsun B110 Sunny, Mitsubishi Galant GTO, Nissan Skyline (the Kenmeri C110 generation), and Toyota Celica.

Production is capped at 100 units, priced at ¥8.08 million (approximately US$55,000) each. The M55 represents a departure from Mitsuoka's usual British or American retro references, instead celebrating domestic Japanese automotive heritage of the 1970s.
