History

Introduced in December 2008, the Himiko grafts an elongated, classically proportioned roadster body onto the Mazda MX-5 (NC generation), evoking the long-hood, short-deck lines of pre-war and early post-war British open cars. The first generation (2008–2018) produced approximately 271 units by hand.

A second generation arrived in 2018 on the current ND MX-5 platform, drawing additional styling cues from the Jaguar XK120 and Morgan Plus 8. The Himiko retains the MX-5's mechanical package — rear-wheel drive, front-engine layout, and a choice of Mazda four-cylinder engines — while delivering a coachbuilt roadster experience at a significantly higher price than the donor car.
