Mitsuoka Rock Star History

Announced in 2018 to mark Mitsuoka's 50th anniversary, the Rock Star used the same fourth-generation (ND) Mazda MX-5 platform and 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine as the Himiko, but the exterior was transformed with a completely different style: a longer, more aggressively muscular body that referenced the 1963–1967 Chevrolet Corvette C2. To achieve more balanced proportions, the Rock Star's body extended the total length by 430 mm compared to the stock MX-5.

Production was strictly limited to 200 units split across three years — approximately 50 in 2019, 75 in 2020, and 75 in 2021 — before the final car was delivered in 2022. A commemorative one-off left-hand-drive 'Rock Star 2.0 LHD Only1 Special' marked the end of production. The Rock Star stood apart from the softer, British-inspired Himiko in personality: Mitsuoka described it as 'naughty, stylish, and fun.'
