MG Midget History

Revived for 1961, the Midget was a re-badged, lightly restyled second-generation Austin-Healey Sprite — a tiny, inexpensive, fun roadster that sat below the MGB. It started with a 948 cc A-Series four and grew through 1,098 cc and 1,275 cc engines.

From 1974 the '1500' used a 1,493 cc Triumph engine and rubber bumpers to meet US rules. Roughly 226,000 Midgets were built before the last car left Abingdon on 7 December 1979, ending the line ahead of the factory's final 1980 closure.
