MG MGA History

The MGA of 1955 was a clean break from the upright, pre-war-styled T-types — a low, aerodynamic roadster (and later a fixed-head coupe) that finally gave MG a modern shape. The vast majority were exported, above all to the United States.

Standard cars used a 1,489 cc and then 1,588 cc B-Series four; the rare twin-cam MGA Twin Cam (1958–1960) added a 108 hp DOHC head but was dropped after roughly 2,100 cars over engine-reliability troubles. About 101,476 MGAs were built across all versions before the MGB replaced it in 1962.
