History

Unveiled on 14 August 2021, the XUV700 was originally conceived as a second-generation XUV500 but repositioned as a new nameplate to mark a step-change in ambition. It shares its ladder-frame-adjacent architecture (a stiff monocoque) with the new Scorpio-N. The XUV700 brought genuinely sophisticated technology to mainstream Indian buyers: ADAS with automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise, a large dual-screen cockpit, and petrol or diesel powertrains including a six-speed automatic.

It became the first Mahindra model to debut the brand's new logotype, used exclusively on SUV products, signalling a strategic divide between Mahindra's commercial and passenger-vehicle identities. The XUV700 sold over 140,000 units within its first years. A facelift, renamed XUV 7XO, launched on 5 January 2026.
