HSV Senator History

Launched for 1992 on the VP platform, the Senator was positioned as HSV's luxury-performance offering — using the Holden Berlina (and later Calais) as its base to deliver V8 power in a more comfort-oriented, better-equipped package than the track-focused ClubSport and GTS.

The Senator Signature trim, introduced in 1997, raised the specification further, offering the highest equipment levels in the HSV range alongside full V8 power. Through the VT, VX, VY, VZ, VE, and VF generations the Senator and Senator Signature provided a genuine alternative for buyers who wanted performance without sacrificing passenger comfort or interior refinement.

Production ended in 2017 with the Holden-based HSV range. The Senator and Grange together covered the luxury end of HSV's lineup for the marque's entire existence.
