When Hindustan Motors opened its Uttarpara plant in 1948, its first product was an assembled version of the British Morris 10, badged the Hindustan 10. The car established the company's production processes and supply chain, laying the foundation for the decades of Morris-derived manufacturing that followed.

Production was limited and assembly-intensive in the early years, with components sourced largely from the UK. The Hindustan 10 was superseded in the early 1950s as the company moved to new Morris-licensed platforms.
