History

The Terrain debuted at the 2009 Detroit auto show and launched for the 2010 model year as GMC's compact crossover, built on GM's Theta platform and sharing its bones with the Chevrolet Equinox. It effectively replaced the Pontiac Torrent as GM wound down the Pontiac brand.

Marked out by its squared-off, truck-inspired styling, the first generation ran through 2017. A redesigned, smaller and lighter second generation arrived for 2018, followed by a third generation. The Terrain has carried the Denali trim near the top of its range.
