GMC Jimmy (S-15 / compact) History

GMC introduced the compact S-15 Jimmy for the 1983 model year, built on the S-15 pickup and positioned as the upmarket twin of the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. It launched as a two-door; a four-door arrived for the 1991 model year, and the name was simplified to Jimmy.

The compact Jimmy ran through 2005 and spawned two of GMC's most famous performance vehicles: the all-wheel-drive turbocharged Typhoon SUV (1992–1993) was derived from it. The Jimmy's top trim, the Envoy, eventually spun off into a model of its own for 1998.
