History

The Canyon arrived for the 2004 model year as the replacement for the compact Sonoma, sized up into the mid-size class. It launched on GM's GMT355 platform alongside its corporate twin, the Chevrolet Colorado (and the Isuzu i-Series), splitting the difference between compact and full-size pickups.

After a hiatus following the first generation, the Canyon returned for 2015 with a fully redesigned second generation, again twinned with the Colorado and offered with a turbo-diesel and the off-road-focused trims. A third generation arrived for 2023 with a wider, more rugged body and the AT4X off-road flagship.
