History
When GM Korea retired the Daewoo Tosca in 2011 and rebranded domestically as Chevrolet, it replaced the Tosca with a locally built version of the global Chevrolet Malibu. Uniquely, the first production unit of the new 8th-generation Malibu rolled off the line at GM Korea's Bupyeong No. 2 plant — Korea was the first market worldwide to receive the car, ahead of North America.
The Malibu was a strong seller in the Korean mid-size segment and also offered in a diesel variant. Korean production and domestic sales of the Malibu were discontinued in August 2022 as part of GM Korea's shift in focus toward SUVs and crossovers.
