GM Korea Captiva / Winstorm History

The first-generation Captiva was developed by GM Korea on the GM Theta platform, derived from the S3X concept revealed in 2004. It launched in South Korea in 2006 under the Daewoo Winstorm name and was simultaneously sold internationally as the Chevrolet Captiva — GM's first true small crossover with genuine off-road pretensions. It was also sold as the Holden Captiva in Australia and New Zealand.

When GM Korea retired the Daewoo brand in early 2011, the Winstorm was renamed the Chevrolet Captiva for the Korean market. An ancillary Opel Antara-based version was briefly sold in Korea as the 'Winstorm MaXX'. First-generation Korean production ran for 12 years, ending in 2018 when Chevrolet announced the global phase-out of that generation in favour of expanding the Equinox.
