Geo Spectrum History
History
The Geo Spectrum existed for a single model year. It had been sold since 1985 as the Chevrolet Spectrum — a captive import based on the Isuzu Gemini (I-Mark) and manufactured by Isuzu in Japan — and when GM launched the Geo brand for 1989, the Spectrum continued under the new badge without mechanical change to fill out the lineup above the Metro.
Offered as a four-door sedan and a three-door hatchback, it was dropped after 1989 and replaced by the Isuzu-built Geo Storm for 1990. Its single year as a Geo makes it the rarest and briefest nameplate in the brand's five-model history.
