Geo Storm History

The Geo Storm replaced the one-year Geo Spectrum for 1990 as the brand's performance-flavored entry. Built entirely by Isuzu in Japan, it was a rebadged second-generation Isuzu Impulse, though it lacked the Impulse's Lotus-tuned suspension, optional turbocharger, and available all-wheel drive. The base car used a 95-hp SOHC 1.6-liter four; the starting price was around $10,390.

A 'wagonback' body style — a stubby rear-hatch variant — joined the liftback for 1991. The GSi trim, available only on the liftback, added a 130-hp DOHC 1.6-liter twin-cam for noticeably stronger performance. Despite outselling the Isuzu Impulse by a wide margin, the Storm was discontinued after 1993 when Isuzu exited the North American passenger-car business, focusing its US efforts on trucks and SUVs.
