Genesis G90 History

The G90 was the very first model launched under the standalone Genesis banner, going on sale in the US in September 2016 as a 2017 model. Effectively replacing the discontinued Hyundai Equus, the first-generation G90 offered a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 and a 5.0-liter V8, with rear- or all-wheel drive, aiming at the Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class with a significant value advantage. It was developed over four years with approximately 1,200 dedicated engineers, reflecting Hyundai Motor Group's ambitions for the luxury segment.

A fully redesigned second generation arrived for the 2023 model year, built on a new lightweight platform with rear-wheel steering and a sophisticated twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 (375 hp) or an electrified variant with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The second-gen G90 also introduced a Long Wheelbase version for the US, adding significant rear legroom, and set a new benchmark for the brand's luxury ambitions.
