Genesis G70 History

The G70 debuted globally in September 2017 and went on sale in the US for the 2019 model year, becoming Genesis's third model and its first in the highly competitive compact luxury segment against the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, and Audi A4. Developed with input from noted designer Peter Schreyer and sharing underpinnings with the related Kia Stinger, the G70 offered a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive — the V6 RWD version reaching 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

The G70 was named the 2019 North American Car of the Year, a landmark achievement for the young brand and a sign that Genesis had genuinely arrived as a credible luxury automaker. A lightly updated second-generation G70 arrived for the 2022 model year with revised styling and interior updates, continuing the model's role as the sporty, accessible entry to the Genesis range.
