FPV GT History
History
The FPV GT launched in 2003 on the BA Falcon platform, powered by Ford's 5.4-litre 'Boss 290' V8 producing 290 kW (389 hp) — the most powerful locally produced Australian sedan of its time. It was paired with a five-speed manual and underpinned by Brembo brakes and uprated suspension, making it a credible rival to Holden's HSV range.
Power climbed with each platform update. The BF-based GT (2005–2008) carried special editions including the 40th Anniversary Cobra, while the FG generation (from 2008) debuted with the Boss 315 at 315 kW. In 2010 the 5.4-litre Boss was replaced by Ford's 5.0-litre supercharged 'Miami' V8, pushing output to 335 kW (449 hp) in standard GT tune.
The GT's final expression arrived in 2014 as the GT-F 351: a limited run of 550 units (500 Australia, 50 New Zealand) producing 351 kW (471 hp) from the supercharged Miami V8. Its name deliberately echoed the revered 351-cubic-inch Falcon GTs of the early 1970s. The GT-F 351 set a record as the fastest Australian-made production car, reaching 297 km/h, before Ford Australia's manufacturing closure ended the model line.
