History

The 1989 Probe was a front-wheel-drive sport coupe built on a Mazda platform; Ford had controversially considered it as a replacement for the rear-drive Mustang before enthusiast backlash kept the Mustang alive.

Two generations were sold through 1997, the sportier GT versions offering a V6.
