The 2009 model year

Overview

The final year of the pre-facelift S197. Ford marked the Mustang's 45th anniversary with a 45th Anniversary edition and the segment's first factory panoramic glass roof option. The Bullitt continued by customer demand. Powertrains were unchanged: V6 (210 hp), GT (300 hp), Bullitt (315 hp), and GT500 (500 hp).

Year over year

What changed

  • Factory panoramic glass roof became a $1,995 option on V6 and GT.
  • 45th Anniversary badging offered to mark the 1964 launch.
  • Bullitt continued as a 2009 model with an additional production run.
  • Last year before the 2010 facelift; powertrains carried over.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • 45th Anniversary edition; ultra-rare Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary (a 45-unit coachbuilt run by Gaffoglio).
  • Final pre-facelift S197 year.

Living with it

Reliability & ownership notes

  • Same powertrain watch items as 2007–2008 (3-valve cam phasers / spark plugs; GT500 cooling).
  • The fixed glass roof is sealed safety glass with an acoustic layer — inspect seals on used cars for water intrusion.
