The 2001 model year
Overview
The Bullitt year. A modern tribute to the 1968 Highland Green fastback from the Steve McQueen film, the 2001 Bullitt GT got a tuned 265 hp 4.6 SOHC, a lowered suspension, Cobra brakes, retro five-spoke wheels, and a deleted spoiler — a clean, purposeful GT. The standard Cobra returned (320 hp) after its 2000 hiatus, and a new center stack modernized the dash. (Horsepower figures are SAE net.)

Reliability & ownership notes
- The Bullitt's mechanical upgrades (Tokico shocks, larger brakes) are durable; verify the car is a real Bullitt by VIN/marti-style documentation given the premium.
- Standard cars share New Edge modular-V8 service notes; the Cobra IRS remains a buying checkpoint.
- New Edge body checkpoints unchanged (convertible seals, front-end rust).
Worth knowing
Notable
- The 2001 Bullitt GT (5,582 built) is the most collectible non-Cobra fourth-gen Mustang — Dark Highland Green is the signature color.
- Return of the standard 320 hp Cobra.
