Ford GT40 History
History
Built to beat Ferrari at Le Mans after a failed buyout, the Ford GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969.
Named for its roughly 40-inch height, it became one of the most celebrated competition cars in history and the inspiration for the modern Ford GT. A small run of road-legal Mk III cars (seven built) followed, debuting in 1967.
