History
Debuting in 2006 as the Besturn B70 — the founding product of FAW's non-Hongqi passenger-car brand — the B70 was developed on the Ford CD3 platform shared with the first-generation Mazda6. It was a significant step for FAW in building a competitive domestic-market sedan outside of its joint-venture operations.
The second generation (2014–2019) retained the Mazda6 platform while adding a Volkswagen-sourced turbocharged engine in the RS trim. The third generation arrived for 2020 as a 5-door liftback sedan on FAW's own FMA architecture — the brand's first car built on entirely in-house underpinnings — and the fourth generation followed in November 2023. The English-language brand name changed from Besturn to Bestune at the end of 2018; the Chinese name Benteng remained unchanged.
