History

Revealed at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show and entering production in 2014, the Hongqi L5 (also known as the Guoli) is a massive neo-retro state limousine whose proportions and chrome detailing deliberately echo the 1960s CA770. At a list price of approximately CN¥5 million (around US$800,000 at launch), it is the most expensive Chinese-made production car ever offered for public purchase.

The L5 seats up to eight across its cavernous interior and is used as a presidential car for Chinese state visits; President Xi Jinping arrived in an L5 on his 2014 tour of New Zealand. A second-generation L5 was revealed at Auto Shanghai in April 2023.
