History
The Summit was Eagle's small, affordable captive import: a badge-engineered Mitsubishi Mirage that shared its platform and mechanicals with the Dodge and Plymouth Colt. It gave Eagle dealers an economy car to sit below the Talon and the larger sedans.
The first generation (1989–1992) arrived as a sedan and later added a hatchback; the redesigned second generation (1993–1996) offered a sedan and a 2-door coupe. A separate, taller Summit Wagon — based on the Mitsubishi RVR — was sold as a compact MPV alongside the regular Summit before the nameplate was dropped after 1996.
Generations
First generation · Mirage-based
Launched as a sedan in DL and LX trims, with a 3-door hatchback added for 1991; a Mitsubishi RVR–based Summit Wagon arrived as a separate tall-wagon/MPV for 1992.
Second generation · Mirage-based (redesign)
A fully redesigned Mirage base; the hatchback was dropped in favor of a 2-door coupe, alongside a new sedan, with the RVR-based wagon continuing.
