History

The Voyah Free was showcased as a concept at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show and formally launched on 18 December 2020 as the founding model of Dongfeng's premium EV brand Voyah — a brand created partly from the repurposed factory of the former Dongfeng-Renault joint venture after Renault exited China.

Designed in collaboration with Italdesign Giugiaro and built on Dongfeng's Electric Smart Secure Architecture (ESSA), the Free is offered in extended-range and pure-electric configurations. The EREV version pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged range extender with electric motors producing a combined 671 hp, and the EREV's NEDC range reaches 860 km (530 mi); the BEV's NEDC range is 500 km (310 mi).

Customer deliveries began in China in Q3 2021; the Free has since been exported to Norway and other European markets, where it competes in the premium electric crossover segment. A second-generation Free+ was revealed at Auto Shanghai 2025.
