De Tomaso P72 History

Hong Kong-based Ideal Team Ventures acquired the De Tomaso trademark in 2014 for approximately €1,050,000 and set about reviving the brand. The P72 — its name a homage to the De Tomaso P70 racing prototype of the 1960s — was unveiled at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed to considerable fanfare for its Sixties-inspired cabin and deliberately analogue character.

The P72 uses a carbon-fibre monocoque constructed to LMP1 standards, shared with the Apollo Intensa Emozione, powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre Ford Coyote V8 developed with Roush Performance, producing 750 hp and 900 Nm of torque. Production is limited to 72 units to mirror the car's name, with the exclusive build list filling quickly after the Goodwood reveal.

The definitive production-specification P72 was finally revealed in May 2025 — six years after the Goodwood concept — retaining the show car's Sixties-inspired lines almost intact, with customer deliveries commencing in late 2025 at a price of roughly US$1.8 million before options.
