De Tomaso Deauville History

First shown at the 1970 Turin Motor Show, the Deauville was De Tomaso's attempt at a full luxury saloon — a four-door grand touring car targeting the Jaguar XJ and Mercedes 450SE. Styled by Tom Tjaarda, it shared the Pantera's 5.8-litre (351 cu in) Ford Cleveland V8, mounted at the front and driving the rear wheels.

Three series were produced over the car's 14-year life: an early Series 1 (1970–1974), a late Series 1 (1975–1977), and a Series 2 (1978–1985). Total production was 244 cars — an obscure footnote even by De Tomaso's boutique standards, but a genuine sports-luxury saloon that predated the 'super saloon' concept.
