De Tomaso Longchamp History

Exhibited at the 1972 Turin Motor Show, the Longchamp was a shorter-wheelbase 2+2 coupé developed directly from the Deauville's platform, sharing its front-mounted Ford V8, suspension, and transmission. Tom Tjaarda styled it at Ghia, drawing on his earlier Lancia Marica prototype for its proportions.

Like the Deauville it was handbuilt in minuscule numbers: 409 total, of which 395 were coupés and just 14 were open Spyder variants. Production limped on through 1989, with only a handful of cars made per year in the final years — a pattern typical of De Tomaso's output after the Pantera's US volumes collapsed. The Longchamp remained a relatively obscure grand tourer, but its rarity makes surviving examples highly collectible.
