Daihatsu Sirion History

The Sirion is the international name for a subcompact hatchback sold in Japan as the Storia (first generation, 1998–2004) and the Boon (second generation, 2004–2015). It effectively replaced the Charade in export markets, carrying on the tradition of an affordable, efficient small hatchback sold across Europe and Southeast Asia.

The first generation (M100/M101) offered three-cylinder 1.0-litre and four-cylinder 1.3-litre engines; the second generation brought the Boon's smoother styling and was also sold as the Toyota Passo in Japan. European annual sales peaked at nearly 19,000 units in 2008 before the global financial crisis and Daihatsu's eventual withdrawal from Europe curtailed the nameplate's export life.
