Daihatsu Compagno History

The Compagno (Italian for 'partner') was the first proper automobile produced by Daihatsu, introduced in April 1963 beginning with a light van and quickly expanding to a wagon, berlina sedan, and a striking Spider convertible styled by the Italian coachbuilder Vignale.

Powered by 800 cc and later 1000 cc four-cylinder engines, the Compagno was also the first Daihatsu to use the now-famous 'D' logo. Around 120,000 units were built before production ended in 1970.
